The Pet Therapy program began in the 1990’s when Dr. Bob Martin would bring his dog "Abby" to the hospital while doing his rounds.
From there a pilot program was started, and today it’s a full fledged therapy program at Hartford Hospital.
Volunteers bring their pet therapy certified dogs in for visits at least once a month. They may interact with patients, visitors and staff on the patient units, in the lobby, or in our cancer centers.
To arrange for a Pet Therapy visit, ask the patients provider or nurse to enter a request through the electronic medical record.
